Runemarks by Joanne Harris, reviewed by Nick Capriola If you're a fan of Norse mythology you probably know that when we last left off there was a big battle and all the gods died. Well, the book Runemarks by Joanne Harris suggests that Ragnorok, the Norse battle to end all battles, wasn't really the end. Joanne Harris is incredible how she weaves words to create such vivid pictures. Rosie's talented accents made you feel there was a huge cast. Absolutely fantastic bltadwin.ru and you will be hooked. Harris' writing style focuses on the senses, mainly smell and taste. She uses the pen name Joanne M Harris to publish her "Loki" series and "Runemarks" series. Her novel "Chocolat" was adapted in the year into a movie that starred Juliette Binoche and Johnny Depp.

In Runemarks, the Norse gods come alive in all their bickering glory, but not until quite late in the tale, after we've had time to get to know Maddy and her strange itinerant friend, One-Eye, who turns up for a few days each year and trains her in the use of glamours (an archaic word for magic spells or enchantments). What starts as a potentially simple story, quickly builds to one of considerable complexity when Maddy leaves the Middle World of men for the goblin-infested tunnels that lead. For most readers Harris should be familiar because of her novel Chocolat, made into a moving starring the yummy Johnny Depp. I admit that part of the reason I picked up Runemarks was half because it was an interesting sounding fantasy based around Norse Mythology and half because it was written by the author of a movie I love. Runemarks is a children's fantasy novel by Joanne Harris. The book was published on 2 August by Doubleday Publishing and is set in a world where the Norse gods still survive as outlaws, their powers diminished, while a new and more powerful religion, the Order, tries to wipe out magic from the world.
